Maddie and Sylvie met in diapers. Literally. Now they are both entering their senior years of high school in Oakland, California. I love it when I get the chance to photograph the same families as the kids grow up and the adults—ahem—seemingly grow younger..:) In a couple of hours we were able to get senior shots, family shots and headshots for everyone who needed them! Thank you Leslie, Matthew, Albert and Jamie for the treat of photographing your families over and over. Stay tuned for flashbacks from both families on the blog.

I’ll be back in Oakland in October for more sessions. Stay tuned for dates.

This young family is in the thick of it—a 4-month-old and a 2-year-old—it doesn’t get any busier than this! Shoots with very young children are great teachers for being present. You have to capture what is there in the moment—sometimes little ones are engaged, sometimes they are exploring, and sometimes they are ready to go..:) It’s all the truth of these early days of parenthood. Thank you Larry and Cassie for a fun morning!

I love the element of surprise that comes with photographing families. Whether it’s a 4-month -old being kissed affectionately by a dog 3 times her size or catching a knowing look between two tired but happy new parents, it’s all a great reminder that life is full of surprises and sweetness. Thanks to Lisa and Baker for having me to their beautiful northwest hills home to document these first special moments of their parenthood and Violet’s bright beginning.
